Thanksgiving recipes

So, the holidays are here. I love this time of year. the smells, the sounds,family, the decorations. So be sure to take some time and enjoy it!!! It really does seem to slip away soo fast. One of my very fav things to do is to cook. I love it. So, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite Thanksgiving recipes. Please email me yours and I can post them. brew_76@yahoo.com

So today is all about dessert!!! It is really the best part.

BETTY CROCKER'S PIE CRUST(for 2 crust pies)

make sure all your ingredients and even your mixing bowl are cold.

2 cups flour
1tsp salt 2/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons shortening
4-5 TBS of Ice cold water

Measure everything except water into a bowl. With a pastry cutter or 2 butter knives. thoroughly cut shortening into dry ingredients. I should look like you have little pea sized shortening chunks through out.
Slowly add water with a pastry cutter 1 Tbs at a time. you may not need all of it. it should be moist but not sticky. gather the dough into 2 balls of equal size.
shape into a flattened round on a flour covered board. roll with a rolling pin 2 inches bigger then pie pan. be sure to keep dough moving on board and sprinkle with flour so, it doesn't stick. Place into pie pan . for a recipe calling for a pre baked shell. prick with a fork before baking. Bake pastry @ 475 for 8-10 min WATCH CAREFULLY IT CAN BURN QUICKLY!!!.


GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST

One stay fresh pack of Graham crackers(8 whole crackers) Place into a large zip bag and crush with a rolling pan. . pour crumbs into a bowl add 1/4 cup sugar,1/4 cup melted butter.
(for cream pies add 1/2 tsp cinnamon) blend together well and press into pie dish. Bake at 375 for 6-8 in. cool before filling.



Best ever pumpkin pie.( this recipe makes 2 pies)

4 eggs lightly beaten
2lb can of libbys pumpkin.(do not get pumpkin pie mix. just plain pumpkin)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
5 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
1 12 oz can of evaporated milk
2 heaping tbs flour

2 9 inch unbaked pie shells
mix ingredients until well blended. pour into 2 pie shells and bake @425 for 15 min
turn oven down to 350 and continue baking for 45 min or until knife in center of pie comes out clean.


APPLE PIE

1 recipe pie pastry.
4 cups thinly sliced apples(Jonathan are wonderful)
2 Tbs of flour
3/4 cups sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
2 TBS of margarine

line pie pan with pie pastry, peel apples and slice thin. Mix flour,sugar,salt,and spices. combine with apples ans place in pastry lined pan. dot with butter. Cover with top crust. with a knife cut a few slits at the top of the pie to vent. pinch edges together. Bake in a preheated oven @450 degrees for 10 min. reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking for 30 min.

*put foil on the bottom of your oven it sometimes spills over.
